Wilmington NC

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Because my business if virtual I can live just about any place in the world as long as I have a high speed internet connection. So, my hubby and I are looking at moving to North Carolina. My son’s lived there for a long time now so it would be cool to be closer to him. He suggested we look in the Wilmington NC real estate area. I’ve seen photos of the area and it looks amazing. We’re going next weekend to take a look. Wish us luck!

Alli, a new find!

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Can you tell I’m anxious to find a way to lose weight? I’m pretty good at research just not good at following what others say. Go figure.

I have to be careful of what I take. I’ve run into problems before with weight-loss pills. One I found, alli, is affordable (thank goodness) and it’s safe and quick. For me, the quicker the better. What I’ve found in Alli is that it’s non-prescription, even though I would talk to my doctor about it, and its like Xenical. Alli also has a weight loss program to go along with the diet pill. I like this. I’m going to look more into it. If you’ve tried Alli, please drop me a line and let me know what kind of results you’ve had.

Prohormones

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

In our never-ending quest to learn more about weight loss and how to build muscles I’ve found information on prohormones that might be highly effective. Yet, prohormones are only for males over the age of 18…which leaves me out, again. Is there nothing for women?

Still, for my hubby, there are good prohormones and ones that tout false expectations. The trick is to know which is which. Definitely, my hubby will talk to his doctor but he’ll also do a lot of research himself, as well.

Personalized pens

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

I’ve been checking out day planners online trying to prepare for next year. I’m not picky but I’m very particular in what I will use. If I buy something I don’t like it will sit and gather dust. As I was looking at the day planners I thought about getting personalized pens as well. They aren’t expensive; I could even give them away. Wouldn’t that be cool?

Needless injury and deaths

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

My friend’s father has been seeing to his doctor for almost a year with complaints of back pain. His doctor prescribed drugs to help with the pain that the doctor said was a strained muscle. When the meds didn’t work his doctor either told him he hadn’t given the drugs long enough to work or prescribed new drugs; no MRI, not CAT…just meds. When Sonya’s dad asked if he should get another opinion his doctor became very angry. So as to not anger a family friend and lifelong doctor, no second opinion was sought. Well, yesterday Sonya’s dad was diagnosed with cancer. It’s now too far along to be operable. He has ‘maybe’ three months left with is family. I ask you, is this right for a doctor to misdiagnose a patient? Is it right that after so many months the doctor not do any kind of CAT or MRI to see if something else might be causing the pain? I’m not a fan of attorneys but in this case I understand why she’s contacting a South Carolina injury lawyer. This happens all too often that we take our doctor’s word as gospel and don’t seek second opinions, or even third opinions if needed. Doctors are human. Not all are created equal, just like insurance brokers or locksmiths. The difference is, doctors can make a difference in our lives…or our deaths.

HIPAA and Cat5e Patch Cables

Friday, September 19th, 2008

My friend Bill e-mailed me a while back about when I wrote about the patch panels and the Cat5e patch cable. Since I’m not a computer tech person I haven’t had the opportunity to learn about the Cat5e patch cable or the patch panels the normal way. I’ve actually learned about them from the internet cafés I’ve gone to and through my blogging. It’s pretty cool. It turns out that the Category 5 cable is moving towards being obsolete so to keep everyone in compliance the new Cat5e or Category 5 “enhanced” cable is replacing the Cat 5. “What is the compliance?” you ask. It’s for HIPAA. It seems the Cat5e patch cables help reduce health insurance fraud and abuse which also lowers the overall cost of health care in the US. The things you learn while reading a blog are mind-staggering.

Zeno!

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Imagine taking a gadget that looks like a lighter and using it to get rid of your blemishes. Here’s a look at the Zeno. It is so cool, but kind of pricy at $150-200 but you can easily carry it in your purse or pocket. It’s a tiny little handheld device that heats up to kill the bacteria that forms blemishes by sending a heat-shock of proteins to the blemish. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Did Baby Boomers Learn Anything?

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

I’ve noticed an increasing number of my fellow baby-boomers have gone back to their bad habits of abusing drubs and alcohol. Some have elected, in their 50’s, to enter drug rehabilitation while others consider it their right to use what they want. I don’t know that I can tell someone that’s old enough to know the dangers of drugs and alcohol or what they can do for their lifestyle, quality of life or longevity of life, but when they explained the problems with abusing drugs or alcohol to their children, most now grown, did they not learn anything? Can adult children send their parents to drug-rehab like we could to them? Interesting.
