Childhood

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Today, I spent some time doing a friend of mine a favor shopping for a gift for his 4 year old nephew. Wow! It brought back a lot of memories from when I shopped for my son when he was turning 4…so old…but still a baby. He’s now 26. As I was shopping I was thinking about the gifts I’d received as a child. I loved my erector set. Do you know I just gave that away a few years ago?  As I looked through the metal box a lot of memories came back to me. I remember when I built, or tried to build, a car and used magnets to pull it along. I think that’s when I found out how cool it was to watch magnets dance…by chasing one with the other’s same poll. It made the one dance on the table. My sister got a human body model that showed all the veins, arteries and organs of the human body. It was pretty cool. My sister was either going to be a vet or a pediatrician. Ends up, she was both…she’s a vet to Oliver taking care of him if he get sick and she was a pediatrician to her children, now both grown. In the meantime, through my reminiscing, I’ve sent several gift ideas to my friend. I’m sure he’ll choose one of them…or we’ll keep looking.

Safe driving

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

When friends ask my hubby about my driving abilities he tells them about how we used to stock a set of hubcaps…so that each time I broke or lost one I’d have a replacement. Yes, this was a regular event. It seemed I could barely go a couple of weeks without cracking or losing a hub cap. I used to swear it was the springs or coilovers. I had to blame the fact that I hit curbs on something…right? I haven’t driven more than a handful of times over the past 8 years or so…I mean less than 5…I’m trying to keep the streets safe ;-)

Insurance claims

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

I wish my sister’s insurance company would stop shuffling paper and pay her claim for almost 2 years ago! Why is it that insurance companies feel like they delay-delay-delay - or deny or destroy documents and get away with it. Shoot, her insurance company won’t even pay for her kitchen faucets let alone the cabinet that’s warped from all the water damage. They keep changing the way they want to settle the claim which then, in turn, delays their payment to her. Is this fair? No. What can she do? Know her rights…and she does. Thank goodness…but what about those people that don’t know their rights? Why should they feel they have insurance and end up with a claim and an adjuster denying the claim? They shouldn’t.

Here’s another free Christmas Card to download. I like it because of the reflection of the tree. Do you know how long it takes to draw each of these little stars???  A long time…but I really enjoy it.

Electronis blog

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Well, shoot! I just finished my Christmas shopping and what do you think happened…I found the perfect electronics blog! It would have answered all my questions about what’s good and what’s different! Well, darn. But…I’m looking for a Wii and need to learn as much as I can before I buy one in the next couple of months so…it’s too late for my Christmas shopping but not my normal shopping.

Oh! Get this…I found a flying alarm clock! Wouldn’t that have been perfect for my son when he wouldn’t get up for school in the mornings!! He’s older now and gets up just fine but I should send it to him anyway. Hmmm…good thought.

Poll on interesting reads

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Over the past few months and years I’ve written about many things - from child abuse, dating/relationships, physical & emotional abuse to weight loss supplements. I’d be interested in hearing from any of you as to which articles are good reads that you pass on to your friends or which articles you don’t find interesting at all.

Feel free to take a look at my other blogs as well at TheSerendipityEffect and ALipstickJungle. I’ve written similar articles there as well. Weight loss or health is very important but then so are our relationships, right?

Use what your mom gave you…

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

What is it about diets, diet pills and weight that turn us off but make us read every article on the subject? And, while we read every article - when it comes time to actually do something we lose our heads and forget about what’s really important in our health and weight loss.

Many companies try to say they have the cheapest product - but will it work? Other companies claim to have the best product - but at what cost to our health? And then there are products that claim to be the end-all to weight loss but at what cost? Our health? Before you start any diet plan or weight loss plan…use your head and the common sense your mom gave you ;-).
