Sis’ vacation

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

My little sister is looking at cruises for her family’s spring break vacation. They’re not sure if they want to do a full Caribbean cruise (and come and see me!) or just go to a few islands, spending more time at each island. Living in the Caribbean for a while, there are some islands I’d visit for short or long periods. All guests would have a great time a many of the islands. Of course, then there are the islands where I wouldn’t want to spend a few minutes let a lone a few hours. All of the islands are full of beauty but not all promote tourism or know how to give tours like the ones many visitors like. Still, the choice is always up to each person and each family. Of course, when you’re on a cruise ship…if you don’t want to visit an island on the itinerary enjoy the ship! They always know how to have fun on the cruise ships.

The past couple of days have been real rough on me. I changed from the Atkins to Weight Watcher’s weight loss program. Who knows why…other than the dizziness I was feelilng from Atkins after a week - and people told me they lost a ton of weight on WW. Well, after just a couple of days on Atkins I lost weight. After 3 days on WW - I lost nothing. I know…I needed to give it a chance but when I know I’ll lose on one - why change to the other? Anyway, I changed back to Atkins today. Wish me luck!

Decorating and Redecorating

Friday, February 20th, 2009

My hubby and I are doing a little redecorating…when I say a little I mean…on the cheap side. We’re trying to make some drasking decorating changes using as little money as possible. One of the changes we’ll make is painting an accent wall.  I’ve watched several DIY shows where we can make the changes we want vert inexpensively. Our bathroom is pretty small. There’s very little change we need to make in it but we had looked at several different models of  farmhouse sinks to add a little personality to the room. To keep within our budget we’re unsure if we’ll be able to add one but…we’re keeping our fingers crossed. I’ll post some photos when it’s all done.

Channeling

One of the things I missed a lot was all the tv channels I love…Soap Net, CBS…my soap, the opportunity to have choices in good programs rather than the couple of channels with limited variety, especially when I’m wanting to relax and watch. Of course, the one thing I didn’t miss but was caught up on was the ads by attorneys when you’re looking for an asbestos or Mesothelioma lawyer.  Having Spanish-speaking commercials I don’t have to worry about attorney commercials. Oddly, Venezuela, Mexico and PUerto Rico don’t have these problems, or if they do, they don’t need a commercial to find an attorney ;-).

Together…

It was so cool to see my friend, Sheri, and her guy when I was back in Orlando. They have redecorated their home and made it so colorful, warm and welcoming I can’t wait to go back. Their pool and deck were awesome! I’ll tell you what, if it hadn’t been so cold I’d have jumped in the pool. Good thing for me I’m going back in a couple of months when it’s a lot warmer…trust me…I will be in the pool then. I remember all the e-mails from Sheri about the changes they were making. Their trellis in the front yard…I so remember all the time it took Sheri to paint that thing. And their fence around their pool and the backyard adds just the right touch of background. Sheri e-mailed me back when they were doing the pvc fence installation. It was great to hear how she and her honey worked together to get it all up so quickly. All the decorationg and changes they made to their house - together - shows they can tackle just about anything - together. Now, they are able to relax, enjoy their home and each other. So cool!

Whiplash from my phone

Friday, February 20th, 2009

While I was in the US I looked at headsets. It just makes sense to go hands-free and whiplash-free with all the time I spend on the telephone. There were some headsets I found that my son said the sound quality would be very poor.  A Bluetooth headset is the one my son said were the best. I am shocked that they are as inexpensive as $13.99 - and what’s better is that I didn’t see any over like $58! Wow! I thought blue tooth was really expensive. I go back to the US in a couple months so I’m going to make sure to have my purchase lined up. This neck ache is getting old ;-)

Don’t do this!

I’ve heard a lot of stories about cars and when you take your car to the shop to have it repaired. Have you ever wondered what happens when a mechanic drives your car over the car lifts…past the stopping point? It isn’t pretty and the cost is several thousand dollars in damage. I’m sure this doesn’t happen very often but it’s something to give some thought to when you want to be a fly on the wall - just to see the mechanic’s expression when it happens.

Saving baby items

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

I still remember the day my I picked my son’s baby bedding  with the cute rocking horse. This started the rocking horse theme we had for his room. It was so cute. Just to be sure it didn’t get lost in all our moves, I’ve made sure all my son’s baby items stayed in the same box - all these years.

Last year I mailed the box to my son to be sure he had it for safe keeping…knowing my travels were far from over ;-)  He wasn’t sure if he really needed to keep it a few months ago when he moved to Orlando but…I assured him to hold on to hit until he had his first baby…then, he could decide if he wanted to keep the baby bedding, clothing and decorations. Somehow, at least for guys, until your ready to have your own children you don’t know if saved items will have any value. He’s cool - and I’m cool!
