It cannot be taken away-ever

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

It was so exciting to have one of my old classmates direct me to her. Then, to find out she’s a high school teacher! That is so cool! She was a great classmate and an even better friend. I know the world has been treating her very well.

When I think of Sharon and how she earned her Master of Arts in curriculum and instruction I can only wish I be a fly on the wall in her classrooms. That is so cool to get a MS Curriculum. It was so exciting to have one of my old classmates direct me to her. Then, to find out she’s a high school teacher! That is so cool! She was a great classmate and an even better friend. I know the world has been treating her very well.

One of my most favorite expressions is, “As parents or adults, we must protect and educate our children. They are the only future the human race has.” If you read this over a few times it really hits home as to what our priorities should be in this world…our children and their future.

When I was younger, much, I learned one very important fact that I’ve tried to pass on to my children…a person can have their home foreclosed, their car repossessed, their luxury or personal items stolen…everything, can be taken away from a persona and they are left bare. But, what is it that no one can take away from you…you’re education.

Always, always…educate yourself in whatever you do or plan to do. Educate.

Need help? Does it help?

Over the past few years I’ve been fortunate enough to reconnect with old classmates. It’s been totally cool, I love it. One of my old classmates is looking to buy a home now that the real estate market is getting lower. She’s going through a debt consolidation company but unsure if it will have any adverse or positive effect on her loan chances. When she asked me, I had no idea. My husband’s sister did it about 10 years ago but they already owned their house. I tried it about 20 years ago and between my rent, utilities, food and them…I couldn’t afford to pay attention. Actually, I had to pay them so much I fell behind on my rent. They take care of credit cards, etc but not rent or normal expenses. Don’t know if they’ve changed over the years but we’ll see what happens to my classmate.

Our garden 2b

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Cute…my hubby and I are looking at different plants to put out on our balcony. We both like flowering plants but we really like the ornamental grasses as well. We can mix and match and design a little zen-type garden that gets just the right amount of sun. It’s a tranquil place for us that we can sit and chat or just have to greet us when we come in and out.  We have two huge plants right now but we’re taking cuttings to make them brighter…oh, and my rose…still doing well. No babies yet but it will have a place in our garden as well.

Pills…any pills

My weight has gotten to be such an issue over the past six months that I’m looking at any type of drug that will burn this disgusting fat off my body. I know, I need to work it off but…I am. I am. I need to find a way to get rid of it once and for all and start fresh - never to gain another ounce. I’ve taken some safe drugs but they did nada…I’ve taken other drugs in the past that did nothing as well other than give me heart problems…now, I’m going to give the Stimerex ES  a try. It has ephedra but I’m not sure if it won’t work. I’ll do some reading on it first but it could work. So many drugs so much farce…need to check it out.

Lights, please!

We’re looking at emergency lights  for when our power goes out…it’s not often but often enough we want to be sure if we don’t have electric we have light of some sort. It’s crazy that at night we can see in the dark but when all the city lights go out…we’re blind as bats. We’ve had this one emergency light since Cabo and it’s been great but you never know when that battery goes down when you’ll need it most.

Sabotaging diets

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

I’ve been trying to be good on my diet but I’ll be darned if there aren’t times I sabotoge it, slightly. I’ve looked online for some sabotage help…and I hope it helps you.

Transitions

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

My son is finally finished with selling his condo in NC. It’s taken  since about October but it’s finally done. He’s with a good company that bought his condo when it didn’t sell after 90 days…pretty cool deal in this real estate market. He had to take make the sale transition in steps from getting a few things repaired that the movers damaged, reading loads and loads of paperwork, taking care of his mortgage life insurance , his homeowner/condo insurance, interviewing real estate agents…and more. In the end, it was a great move and very worth all the paperwork. Would he do it over again? In a heartbeat.

Kitchen memories

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Reminising a little yesterday about my first kitchen…or my first two kitchens. My first kitchen was smaller but cozy; it was an attic/upstairs type kitchen. I was 20, newly married and trying to earn my stripes in the Suzy Homemaker Club. Do you know that I used to wax my kitchen floor every single day? I stripped the wax once a week and then reappliled the wax. I had the shinniest floor in all of Alton, Illinois. Yes, I had way to much time on my hands ;-)

My next kitchen was about 15 x15 sf, at least. It was really large. I tried to do the same here but…wow. the work. Still, I have it the old college try. My kitchen on Pearl Street was orange. All the walls were a slight yellow but the orange curtains in the tall old windows and accent pieces reflected an orange tint to the walls. This color really made for a cheery kitchen.

Something I really loved about this house (originally built without a bathroom) is that it had a huge pantry. It could be used as a room all to itself. Today, it could be used as a computer room and be very cool…but, this was my pantry before computers…before remote control on tv’s! We could stock all kinds of groceries in the pantry. Only thing we had to worry about back then was the pesky pantry moths. We had ant and roach traps back then…no ants or roaches but we had traps. We didn’t have the pantry moth traps back then…or if we did, I didn’t know about them.

So many kitchens, so many colors, so many sizes…I loved all my kitchens…still do.

It’s Madness…in March!

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

March Madness…is driving me mad-ness. Do you realize that it’s been the only thing on tv since 12:15 Thursday!!? Now, I’m not someone that sits around and watches tv 24/7 but I do have one or two shows I’d rather watch - or hear than basketball. I’m unsure if I dislike the sportscasters voices or the skreetch of the tennis shoes more. I’d probably watch just about anything more than basketball…let’s see…I could watch commercials about paint drying - or watch paint really dry ;-). I could watch Lindsey Wagner talk about her sleep number bed…or pray someone makes mine. I’m thinking…maybe I would really enjoy watching water - evaporate! Hmmm…well, these are the thoughts and opinions of a less than enthusiastic basketball fan…so,…where’s the madness?

It’s his choice

My hubby’s 50th birthday is coming up and I’ve offered him the same gift he gave me…where ever you want to go…let’s do it. For my 50th we went to DisneyWorld…so much fun. We had a great time. Now, my hubby can choose from Outer Banks rentals on one shore to the Golden Gate on the other shore…anything in between, above or below. Oh! Did I tell you…for his 40th I surprised him with a trip to Venezuela! That was a blast!
